Bose Noise Masking Sleepbuds
- Price: $$$
Bose is well-known for noise-canceling technology, though this is different from noise masking. The Sleepbuds mask, instead of block or cancel, external noise thats why they dont have an NRR. Theyre like tiny white noise machines that fit snugly into your ears.
They connect to an app that provides you with a library of white noise and environmental nature sounds to choose from. You can also choose the volume and duration of play. Theres an alarm function if youd like to use them to wake you up, too.
These sleep earbuds come with three tips, so you can choose the best fit for your ears. The design, which uses a mix of durable plastic, has comfort in mind even for side sleepers.
These Sleepbuds need to be recharged daily and will hold a charge for about 8 hours, so you can get a solid nights sleep.
Users report that the Sleepbuds are excellent for masking transportation sounds, such as traffic. For some people, they dont work as well on snoring.
- Price: $
- NRR: 26 decibels
Custom-molded earplugs are designed to provide you with a personalized fit. This do-it-yourself kit from Radians includes silicone material that you mold into earplugs. It takes around 10 minutes to make both earplugs, and users say its easy to do.
What Type Of Snorer Are You
There are 3 types of snorers and each need their own treatment. Take our 40 second test to see what type you are.
These noises include anything from car horns and construction sounds, to loud neighbors and, of course, snoring.
Earplugs typically muffle and block sounds. So not only do they keep out the sounds you dont want to hear, they can also block out the things you do want to hear.
But, with the SoundBarren Sleepers, you can still hear certain sounds, like music or voices, clearly.
The sounds are just softer and less disruptive. So, for example, youll still be able to hear your alarm clock go off in the morning.
The StayPut Comfort Design of the SoundBarren Sleepers means theyll fit comfortably inside your ear. And theyll stay in place while you sleep, even if you toss and turn at night.
These earplugs are made of hypoallergenic, non-toxic silicone, so you dont have to worry about the pain or itchiness some earplugs can cause.
And, finally, the SoundBarren Sleepers are backed by a no-hassle, 100% satisfaction guarantee. If you dont like them, you get your money back. Simple as that.
Many people have successfully used the SoundBarren Sleepers Noise Reducing Ear Plugs to block out snoring.
Buyers also praise them for being as comfortable as they are effective. And as one user commented, while these earplugs blocked out snoring sounds, she was still able to hear her alarm.

How To Use White Noise Machines
Looking to block out snoring without earplugs? Well, the next option available to you is white noise for snoring removal. Using a white noise machine is easymuch more comfortable than using earplugs.
All you have to do is plug them in , and leave them to run in the background. Over the course of the night, your machine will block out any unwanted noise. As we mentioned above, the reason is that white noise is easy for your brain to block out. Its just like a clock ticking.
White noise machines are perfect for the home, or for when youre traveling. You can find portable white noise machines that run on batteries, which allow you to use them when youre on the go. By contrast, you could use one that plugs into the outlet, giving it extended power overnight. Its all about what you prefer. These devices are small and light, so you can carry them in your luggage wherever you go.
If you have a plug-in machine, you obviously need access to power sockets to use it. That may not be possible on an aircraft or another form of transport, for example. You might also find that you do not like the sound that white noise machines make. Instead, you should look into the brown and pink machines instead. So if yours doesnt work for you, try one of those alternatives instead.
How To Block Out Loud Snoring Noise
Noise level: 55 dBA
To block loud snoring noise, snore-blocking foam earplugs are essential.
If you havent yet done it, please first read the section on blocking moderate snoring noise, which covers the basics.
Foam earplugs, providing a maximum of about 40 dB noise reduction, are a good start but not nearly enough to block loud snoring.
You can eliminate loud snoring by wearing headband sleep headphones on top of the earplugs and playing white noise to mask the remainder of the snoring noise. These headbands are made out of fleece or mesh material and have thin, removable speaker inserts.
The image below shows such a headband with one of the speakers taken out.
I recommend these two sleep headbands: SleepPhones Classic and Cozyphones Contour. SleepPhones Classic are better for a cooler climate and feature a stronger bass. CozyPhones Contour are great for a warmer climate and have a more detailed sound.
As white noise source, I use the app myNoise , and adjust the white noise pitch for optimal effectiveness.
The post headphones and earbuds for side sleepers provides more details and also recommendations for wireless options.
You may wonder why I dont recommend using earplugs in combination with sleep headbands even for moderate snoring noise: I find wearing only earplugs or sleep earbuds more comfortable than wearing earplugs plus a sleep headband, and I value comfort above all else.

Products To Help With Sleeping Next To A Partner Who Snores
Getting a good nights rest is a necessary, but not always easy task. Many factors can contribute to why your sleep quality may be suffering, including scrolling through your phone right before bed, drinking caffeine too late and, for some people, having to sleep next to a very loud snorer.
Though annoying for those who have to hear it, snoring is incredibly common and affects 57% of men and 40% of women in the United States. Its also important to note that excessive snoring could be caused by underlying health issues such as sleep apnea, and to consult with a doctor if problems persist.
When it comes to sleeping beside a snorer, it can seem impossible to actually get more than a few winks a night while dealing with the disruptive sound of a small bear in your ear. But if you can relate to this frustrating predicament, fear not: We asked other HuffPost readers to tell us their must-have items when it comes to sleeping next to their snoring partner.
While a couple of people said that the answer is to literally build another room to sleep in, there were several practical suggestions, like reusable earplugs, white noise machines and a sleeping headband mask. Check them out below.

What Else Can You Do When Your Partner Is Snoring
You desperately want a good nights sleep, but at the same time, you dont want to make your partner feel embarrassed about their snoring. Waking them up whenever this occurs is not the best choice. While you could cope with a snoring partner by poking them awake every time they start snoring, hoping theyll turn around and stop, you dont have to do it this way. Youll be surprised to know there are other options aside from this:
Do Noise Cancelling Headphones Work For Snoring
Your partner or roommate is snoring like a chain saw, and nothing seems to work. You have tried earplugs but they either dont block enough of the snores or you just cant tolerate them.
Now you are wondering, Do these expensive noise-cancelling headphones block out snoring?
I have asked myself the same question. And I have tried quite a few different solutions with anything from moderate, over loud, to deafening loud snoring noise.
The performance of noise cancelling headphones varies greatly , so this post has to answer this question using specific models.
To test the snore blocking performance of active noise cancellers, I tried the over-the-ear Bose Quiet Comfort 35 and the in-ear QuietComfort 20 .
For me the result is this:
The Bose QC35 noise cancelling headphones block out enough of even loud snoring to allow me fall and stay asleep.
In fact, they can be made into the best snoring noise blocker I have been able to come up with by boosting their performance with shaped white noise and/or foam earplugs.
For more on my recipe for optimizing the performance of noise cancelling headphones for snore blocking and how you they might even work for a side sleeper, keep reading.
How did the QC20 perform then? The Bose QC20 work for me with moderate snoring , but if the snoring gets loud, I have to increase the white noise volume too much for my taste.
They are great for other purposes but not nearly as effective as the QC35 when it comes to snoring.

Is It Bad For You To Sleep With Earplugs In
Earplugs are a safe option to use for sleeping. Frequent use of earplugs may cause some minor issues, such as earwax buildup. Using earplugs is a great way to block out snoring that can disturb a natural sleep pattern. Earplugs promote better quality sleep for people who share a bed with someone who snores.
According to research, earplugs offer an affordable and safe solution for blocking out snoring. In some cases, earplugs can even increase the deepest form of sleep, REM sleep. Sleeping with earplugs may increase melatonin levels. Melatonin is a critical hormone that guides the body to determine if it is time for sleep.
Compared with other sleep aids such as prescription medicine, earplugs have much fewer and less unpleasant side effects. For example, over the counter and prescription sleeping pills can have a series of unpleasant side effects such as drowsiness and dizziness.

The Best Earplugs For Sleeping In 2021
Whether you need to block out a snoring partner or noisy neighbors, these earplugs have your ears covered.
Good sleep is arguably the most important part of feeling your best. You can eat well, exercise and stream all the guided meditations YouTube has to offer, but if you’re up tossing and turning all night instead of sleeping because the person sleeping next to you is snoring like a freight train, you’re probably not going to wake up ready to tackle your day.
While you can certainly opt for a sleep divorce — Steve Romine, head of Bose Health Division, shared with me that up to 25% of couples either sleep in different beds or different rooms — you might want to see if you have any luck with earplugs first. There are a lot of options out there, but the best earplugs fit snugly in your ear canals and help cut down ambient noise so you can drift off to sleep a little more peacefully.
When it comes to earplugs, options run the gamut from your basic foam earplugs to moldable silicone putty to high-tech sleep buds that play pink noise as you snooze.
Do We Have Anything For The Snorer
We thought youd never ask.
We have helped hundreds of people save their marriage with these little beauties, with the Clipair Nasal Device and Airmax Nasal Breathing Device. The Airmax Nasal Device, patented by Ear Nose & Throat specialists, is a specially designed medical device that increases airflow through the nose to help you breathe better.
Made of a super soft medical grade silicone, the Airmax acts a stint to keep the nasal passage open which is the ideal solution for people who snore at night.
If snoring starts in your nose, keeping your nasal passages open can help. Imagine a thin garden hose with water running through. The narrower the hose, the faster the water rushes through.
Your nasal passages work similarly to this. If your nose narrowed or clogged, fast-moving air that you breathe in is more likely to produce snoring.
