A systematic review of all studies on acupuncture for insomnia published in the English language through 2002 identified few studies suitable for analysis because most studies had not used formal randomized, double-blind procedures . Most studies reviewed included small numbers of patients who reported insomnia symptoms of varying duration and severity. The reviewers concluded that acupuncture may be an effective intervention for the relief of insomnia . A subsequent systematic review also found inconclusive evidence for acupuncture in insomnia due to the small number of sham-controlled studies, differences in study design .

Acupuncture & Chinese Herbs For Insomnia: It’s Working
In January 2013, I started my acupuncture and Chinese medicine experiment. I was seeking help with my chronic insomnia and willing to try anything.
After 11 sessions and a few different Chinese herbal prescriptions, I still could not figure out if the experiment was working. I felt confused and wasnt sure if I wanted to continue.

Always verify that your acupuncture practitioner holds an active professional license to practice acupuncture in your state. You can search online for professional licenses in your state.
For example, if you live in New York State, you can enter a practitioners name in a tool on the Office of the Professions website.
You can also check whether your practitioner is accredited with the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine .
