Exercising your tongue and throat muscles makes them stronger and reduces snoring. Tight muscles will not collapse backwards when you lie down.

  • Pronounce vowel sounds . Repeat each of them loudly for three minutes at a stretch for 3-4 times a day.

    “A body pillow provides an easy fix,” Slaughter says. “It enables you to maintain sleeping on your side and can make a dramatic difference.”

    Taping tennis balls to the back of your pajamas can also stop you from sleeping on your back, Chokroverty says. “Or you can recline the bed with the head up and extended, which opens up nasal airway passages and may help prevent snoring.     How To Properly Use A Neti Pot

    Instructions to use your Neti Pot usually come included with the device, however the FDA warns that sometimes these instructions are misleading or give the wrong information. The FDA recommends that you consult with your physician if you have questions or concerns about using the Neti Pot.

    Below is a safe and common way to use your Neti Pot:

    • Mix about 16 ounces of lukewarm distilled, sterile, or previously boiled water with 1 teaspoon of salt or 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. DO NOT USE TAP WATER UNLESS PREVIOUSLY BOILED OR ANY OTHER LIQUID.

    • Tilt your head over a sink at a 45-degree angle and place the spout of the Neti Pot into your top nostril.
    • Gently pour the saline solution into your top nostril.
    • Let the fluid flow through your nasal passages and out the bottom nostril.
    • If the saline solution runs into your throat, just spit it out and resume the process.
    • Blow your nose to get rid of any remaining liquid.
    • Repeat the process on the other nostril.

    How Often Do You Need To Use A Neti Pot

    The frequency of your neti pot usage will be determined based upon your needs and condition. For overall maintenance, some people find that using a neti pot once a day is adequate.     Keep It Safe And Clean

    Nasal irrigation is generally considered to be safe, but a small percentage of regular users experience mild side effects such as minor nasal irritation. People whose immune system isn’t fully functioning should ask their doctor before trying nasal irrigation because they are at greater risk for infections.

    How Do You Use The Neti Pot

    There aren’t any official medical guidelines, but Neti pots usually come with an insert that explains how to use them. You might also want to ask your family doctor or an ear, nose, and throat specialist to talk you through the process so you can get comfortable with the Neti pot before trying it on your own.

    Typically, to use the Neti pot or other nasal irrigation device, mix 3 teaspoons of iodide-free, preservative-free salt with 1 teaspoon of baking soda and store in a small clean container. Mix 1 teaspoon of this mixture in 8 ounces of distilled, sterile or previously boiled and cooled water.

    If you experience burning or stinging, cut the amounts of dry ingredients to make a weaker solution. For children, use a half-teaspoon with 4 ounces of water.

    Once you’ve filled the Neti pot, tilt your head over the sink at about a 45-degree angle. Place the spout into your top nostril, and gently pour the saline solution into that nostril.

    The fluid will flow through your nasal cavity and out the other nostril. It may also run into your throat. If this occurs, just spit it out. Blow your nose to get rid of any remaining liquid, then refill the Neti pot and repeat the process on the other side. It’s important to rinse the irrigation device after each use and leave open to air dry.

    How Is Obstructive Sleep Apnea Diagnosed

    It can be difficult to know if you have obstructive sleep apnea based on your symptoms alone. Some symptoms, like dry mouth, headaches, and fatigue can be caused by other conditions. Others, like lapses in breathing and snoring, only occur when you are asleep and you are therefore oblivious to them.
