The Sleep app will track your total time asleep and track each time you woke up throughout the night, as well as your and . Sleep tracking is natively available on all Apple Watches Series 3 and newer. Its an automatic feature that tracks data when you go to bed while wearing the smartwatch, but you do have to set it up. Heres how to configure sleep tracking on your Apple Watch.

Although you can set up sleep tracking on your Apple Watch, its much easier to do on your iPhone. First, make sure your iPhone is running iOS 14 or higher, and your Apple Watch is running;watchOS 7 or higher. If not, the sleep tracking settings wont be available.

To get started, tap and open the Health app on your iPhone. You can swipe down on the Home screen, and then use Spotlight Search;to find it if necessary.

Next, tap the Browse tab, and then tap Sleep.

You can now schedule your bedtime routine. Having a set schedule helps your Apple Watch start monitoring for sleep activity. It also sets an automatic alarm to wake you in the morning.

Tap Full Schedule & Options.

In the Full Schedule section, tap Set Your First Schedule.

Choose which days of the week you want to use this schedule. Then, set your Bedtime and Wake Up times.

Update Your Full Schedule

  • Tap a schedule in Full Schedule & Options.
  • Tap Edit under the schedule you would like to update.

  • Tap Wake Up Alarm to turn on an alarm and adjust your alarm sound, volume, and haptics.

  • Open the Sleep app on your Apple;Watch.

  • Tap your current bedtime.

  • To set a new wake-up time, tap the wake-up time, turn the Digital Crown to set a new time, then tap Set.

    If you dont want your Apple;Watch to wake you in the morning, turn off Alarm.

  • The changes apply only to your next wake-up alarm, after which your normal schedule resumes.

    Note: You can also turn off the next wake-up alarm in the Alarms app . Just tap the alarm that appears under Sleep | Wake up, then tap Skip for Tonight.

    Native Apple Watch Sleep Tracking

    With the release of watchOS 7 last year, Apple Watch now officially supports sleep tracking without needing a third-party application.

    We went hands-on with the experience when it was released, explaining that Apple is tying Apple Watch sleep-tracking capabilities in with new iPhone features such as Wind Down and Wake Up for a seamless cross-device experience.

    Theres a new Sleep app on the Apple Watch, as well as a Sleep Mode that hides your usual watch face and instead shows the current time, as well as what time your alarm is set for. It also disables features like raise-to-wake, so your watch face isnt lighting up in the middle of the night.

    To view the sleep data tracked by your Apple Watch, you can go to the Sleep app on Apple Watch or the Health app on iPhone. The actual data here is limited.     Plus, on the days when I need a mid-day recharge, having the extra Apple Watch charger on my desk makes that a lot easier.

    This works perfectly for me, but your routine is probably different than mine. The key is to come up with a plan that you can replicate every day. Whether thats charging in the morning or at night, or a combination of both, its a lot easier than you might think to change your Apple Watch charging habits.

    How To Set Up Sleep On Your Apple Watch In Watchos 7

    Before you head to bed with your best Apple Watch band strapped around your wrist, you’ll need to actually launch the Sleep app and set it up. The first time you launch the Sleep app, you will be prompted through a ton of different screens to set up your sleep schedule. You’ll need to set what time you want to wake up and go to bed, set if you want an alarm, and what sound that alarm will make, and you’ll need to set up if you want sleep tracking and Wind Down enabled. It sounds like a lot, but the process is pretty straightforward here’s how you do it!

  • Launch the Sleep app on your Apple Watch.
  • Tap Next. You’ll need to scroll down to the bottom of the screen.
  • Adjust the time for your sleep goal by using the + and buttons.

  • Tap Done to finish setting up.

  • Update Next Wake Up Only

  • Open the Health app, tap Browse at bottom of the screen, then tap Sleep. If you have Sleep favorited, you can access it from the Summary page in the Health app.

    The Apple Watch sleep tracking software Im using is still in beta stages, meaning Apple could alter it before watchOS 7s official release. As it is now, Im more impressed than I thought I would be.
