Its very unlikely they will all use Samsung/Android phones so Im not entirely sure why Samsung develops these features!

The Samsung watch tracks sleep by measuring the Heart Rate Variability and wrist movements made by the wearer of the smartwatch.

Galaxy Watch Active2 and Watch3 comes with the inbuilt ability to track your sleep when you wear the watch to bed.

To start the tracking process Samsung states to Go to your apps tray and open Samsung Healthtap on Sleep and there you can see all your sleep tracking information. When youre ready for bed, tap Start to begin the tracking to see if youre getting a restful nights sleep.

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4s software provides the best experience Ive ever had using Wear OS, period. Although smartwatches with the old Wear OS have fooled me before working fine at first until glitches start oozing out the Galaxy Watch 4 doesn’t falter. I will say the software still feels very Tizen-esque, but its a good thing. Finding my rhythm took no time, letting me switch between apps and menus and setting pages seamlessly.

The rotating tiles are obvious remnants of Tizen, plus Samsung Pay and Samsung Health still take priority. Beyond that, Googles new app cloud is loaded with Googles programs. That said, the selection is a bit limited right now. There’s no Google Assistant yet, for example.

Complementing Wear OS, One UI Watch makes the Galaxy Watch 4 a more active member of the Samsung device ecosystem. The software skin transition settings and tools from a Galaxy smartphone to a Galaxy smartwatch, and vice versa, automatically. One UI Watch also leverages an expansive watch face library, complete with a proprietary editing suite for developers. Bubbly numbers, animal animations and color-coordinated complications that remind me of Android 12 are some of my frequent face choices.

I still don’t understand how I can get a sleep score in the 80s, when my total sleep was just over 5 hours one night and then score in the mid-70s when my duration is over 7 hours. Despite these subtle changes, the Galaxy Watch 4 pays homage to the Galaxy Watch models of the past. I also appreciate the Green version thats color-matched to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3, but it only comes in the 44mm size. I prefer the 40mm model for my wrist size, though my male colleague tried on the 46mm Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and enjoyed the look of the larger display.

Switch The Silent Mode On

To ensure you sleep well, your alarms and other notifications must be set on silent mode. For the Samsung Gear S3, there are a few settings you need to tweak. You can do it on the watch itself or your phone app.

    The one major software differentiator between the Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch is the ability to have an always-on watch face. However, after nearly a month using the Galaxy Watch, I discovered that this is also the culprit that kills the battery life the fastest and if you enable the watch face to be on all the time then you are likely to get about half of the battery life that Samsung advertises.

    If you want a chance at four or more days of battery life, then go to Settings> Watch faces and toggle off the Watch always on option. You can still keep the gesture enabled to turn on the watch face so if you lift your wrist and rotate to look at the screen then you should see the watch face. I prefer having the watch face always on, but until Samsung improves the battery life with this enabled I have it turned off.

    If you really want to go crazy and see a week to a month of battery life, battery settings are available for power saving and watch only modes too.

    Samsung Galaxy Watch : Sleep And Stress Tracking

    Samsung improved sleep tracking metrics for its latest smartwatch. Blood oxygen is measured once a minute overnight on the Galaxy Watch 4, compared to once every 30 minutes on the Galaxy Watch 3. More SpO2 readings could mean more insight on rest quality, especially for those with conditions like sleep apnea. When you sleep next to a compatible smartphone, the sounds of your snores get tracked, too.

    I’m a quiet sleeper, but I do often wake up for an hour at a time in the early morning. In these instances, the Galaxy Watch 4 would record two separate sleeps, but show me the total time asleep in the morning recap.

    Another recovery tool, the Galaxy Watch 4s stress app shows your stress levels. I stayed in the green, which means not too stressed, but the smartwatch still gave me the option to launch a breathing session. The Fitbit Sense takes a more convincing approach to stress monitoring and management, though its encouraging to see Samsungs watch catching up.

    Like the original Galaxy Watch Active, the Active 2 tracks your sleep, which wont completely kill your battery. I wore the watch to bed for almost a week, and I found the breakdown of light, REM and deep sleep to be as interesting as it is in Fitbits sleep-tracking dashboard.

    Unfortunately, the watchs native sleep-tracking wasnt as accurate as I had hoped. One night, the watch told me I fell asleep after 3 a.m., when I definitely went to bed closer to midnight. I have a knack for falling asleep instantly and staying there, so Im not sure why the watch pegged my bedtime so late. On another evening, I put the watch in Goodnight mode to turn off the always-on display and then hit the sack. The next morning, the sleep widget on the watch itself reported my sleep accurately, but the data wouldnt sync to the Samsung Health app.

    With some fine-tuning, the Galaxy Watch Active 2s sleep-tracking could be more useful. For now, it lags behind the Fitbit Versa 2 and Fitbit Charge 3, but ahead of Apple Watch and watches based on Googles Wear OS, which can pull data from third-party sleep-tracking apps but cant track your sleep on their own.

    How To Turn On Snore Detection

    • On your phone, open Settings > Apps > Samsung Health
    • Go to Sleep > More options > Snore detection
    • You can also find this option in your watchs Settings > Measurements > Snore Detection
  • Set it to Always on or toggle it on manually for times when you want to track snoring
  • Choose to record audio and set how long you want those recording saved
  • Once you turn snore detection on, wear your Galaxy 4 watch to bed and place your phone on a flat surface, near your head. Once your watch detects that you are sleeping, your phones microphone picks up and records any snoring sounds.

  • Try rebooting the watch: The exact process of rebooting a Galaxy Watch may differ depending on the model. For the Galaxy Watch 3, hold down both buttons until the Rebooting screen comes up. Hopefully, that will fix your problem.
  • Unpair and re-pair the watch with your watch: This is unlikely to work, but it only takes a couple of minutes. So, go to the Wearable app and give it a try.
  • Perform a factory reset: This is a more drastic approach that will delete everything on your watch. Again, the exact process may differ from watch to watch. To factory reset a Galaxy Watch 3, go to the general settings and hit the Reset option at the bottom of the list.
