Or Condition The Sound With A White Noise Machine
A sound conditioner works much like a sound machine but focuses on masking disruptive sounds and creates soothing night noise.
The is compact and lightweight but is a heavy-hitter when it comes to blocking out.
A number of TFG readers recommended packing one of these little guys when you head out on a trip and are planning on sharing space with someone who snores. One even noted, After a few trials and errors, this brand has been reliable and the one that works for us.
Will A White Noise Machine Help With Snoring
Sleeping next to a partner who snores is not only frustrating but may even cause you to lose sleep, placing a strain on your relationship. Snoring is an issue that affects an estimated 40% 50% of the US population. Its no wonder why anti-snoring products are a multi-billion dollar industry. As for solutions, theres everything from dietary supplements to snoring mouthpieces, and then theres the white noise machine.
White noise machines are not exactly cutting-edge technology. In fact, they have been;used for decades to help not only those who deal with a snoring partner, but;also to help remedy issues including tinnitus, covering traffic noise, help with relaxation, or to help babies fall asleep among;several other uses.
The question is, can white noise therapy help to cancel out the sound of snoring? The answer greatly depends on the severity of your partners snoring. For mild snoring, a white noise machine may be all that it takes to find relief and get a good nights rest. If their snoring is so so loud that it can be heard from several rooms away, you would have to adjust the volume of your machine to a level that would be too uncomfortable to sleep, making it ineffective.
Use A Rhinomed Mute Nasal Dilator
The Rhinomed Mute Nasal Dilator looks a little strange, but it can seriously help reduce snoring.
One TFG reader shares, I wear a mouthguard for apnea and my sleep dentist recommends these for people who still snore. Took a few days to get used to them but they work great and now I totally can tell if I forget to wear it. Buy the sampler pack to start and find the right size.
If you need to reduce snoring for your roommate, partner or even you, theyre worth a try!

White Noise Apps For Snoring
The last two points are my personal favorite ways to block out noises whether Im trying to work or sleep. Usually, I use a white noise mobile app for work, more so than for sleep. However, having used a mobile app to fall asleep before, I feel qualified enough to use this as an example.
Whether you download your apps from the iTunes App Store or the Google Play Store doesnt really matter. Many white noise apps are not only effective but, more importantly, free.
I usually download whichever white noise app the internet tells me is the best, so Im currently using Relaxio. Its pretty similar to many other white noise apps Ive used, though. So heres what you can expect.
The app has several sound profiles and tracks you can play individually to create the perfect mess of sounds. To start with, the app does have a true white noise track, as well as a variation that seems to be brown noise.
There are all sorts of nature sounds and even environments such as highway noises, train tracks, or coffee places. Personally, I use environment sounds to work and nature sounds when I want to sleep. Im partial to thunder and rain basic, I know.
Also, most white noise apps do have timer features, so you can set them to turn off automatically whenever you want. And of course, youd be able to use the app with your earbuds if it comes to that. However, since many of these apps are free, you may have to put up with some ads.

A sleep study can be done in a specialist sleep clinic or at home. It is an overnight procedure where you are monitored to gain insight into what happens when you sleep.
You are observed with polysomnography which simply means many sleep measurements. Therefore, you are connected to a variety of monitors to observe different facets of your sleep:
- Blood oxygen levels blood oxygen drops during apnea episodes.
- Brain activity to detect the micro-arousals that accompany apnea events and assess what stage of sleep you are in.
- Muscle activity
How Do I Use A White Noise Machine
Manufacturers recommend placing a noise machine not immediately next to your bed but several feet away. Optimally, youll place it in a location closer to where the noise enters the room. That was youre able to have the volume set higher than you would immediately next to you. In some cases, additional machines may be needed.
There are only a few steps in setting up a noise machine as theyre generally very easy to use. Ideally, youll place it in a good location away from your bed at least several feet, and higher off of the floor if possible.
This is helpful for 2 reasons:
Setting up a noise machine only requires a few steps: adjust the volume as needed to a comfortable level that can block snoring and choose your prefer sound type or sound tone that works well to eliminate snoring.
Desks, tables, or nightstands are great locations for them. While you can use yours very close to your bed if you feel its necessary, its not ideal.
Locating a noise machine a least 3 feet away is ideal and gives it the opportunity to cover more of the room.
Is White Noise Helpful For Focus
White noise aids focus by blocking out noise pollution. Since it fills in the space between outside sounds, it thereby dampens them. For people who work in loud spaces or are easily distracted, this can make a significant difference in their focus. There are also some indications that white noise may affect perception and cognition depending on the timing and task at hand.
How To Pick The Perf White Noise Machine
Heres what to consider when shopping for your new bedtime buddy:
- Features. There are a lot of basic white noise machines out there that do one thing only: play preset sounds on a loop. But you might want a machine that can replace your alarm clock and play soothing sounds. Opting for a machine with more features can help you avoid a super cluttered nightstand, too.
- Sound variety. Sure, the crashing waves sound nice now. But in 6 months, you might want to mix things up. Choose a machine with at least a couple of sounds to choose from, so your machine doesnt become more annoying than the thing youre trying to drown out.
- Volume settings. If youre looking for a white noise machine that can drown out loud noises, choose a model with high volume settings. Careful, though. Unsafe volume levels can have an effect on your hearing. Above a certain decibel level, white noise can be harmful to infants, too.
A white noise machine might be great for you if you:
- have a partner or roommate that snores
- are a baby

Do Noise Cancelling Headphones Work For Snoring
Recently, I got a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort QC35 active noise cancelling headphones. After hesitating for a long time because I didnt want to spend $$$, I finally pulled the trigger and emptied my wallet.
Sampling them in a Bose store, I had been so impressed with their ability to cancel low-frequency noise and the wearing comfort that I decided I had to have them in my arsenal. Low-frequency noise irritates me during the day and keeps me awake at night. I think low-frequency noise triggers a stress response in me.
They work well if you can sleep on your back. I have been wearing them for 8 hours during the day and found them very comfortable. The QC35 sound great. I use them a lot during the day when I want to concentrate. I also nap with them. They are wireless Bluetooth headphones, working with iOS, Android,; MAC, Windows, etc. They also come with an audio cable for wired connections. The rechargeable battery lasts for 20 hours , so you can easily get two nights out of them before recharging.
However, they are over-the-ear headphones and hence only suitable if you sleep on your back.
Combined with my custom white noise settings, they blocked moderate and louder snoring noises very well.
For really loud snoring, I combined them with NRR 33 earplugs. Using this combination, I was able to effectively block even the loudest snores with a moderate level of white noise.
A Note On White Noise
You may wonder why we call these “sound machines” more often than “white-noise machines.” It’s because we’re nerds. Technically, the steady background whirr produced by most of these machines isn’t white noise at all. Most sound machines use pink or brown noise instead. If you think of sound waves as being loosely analogous to light waves, then the different colors of noise refer to different parts of the sound spectrum. Pure white noise is a mix of all the frequencies humans can hear, so it can be a little agitating . Pink and brown noise are at the lower end of the spectrum. They aren’t as grating and have been found to help people sleep a little more deeply.

White Noise Machine For Snoring Why You Must Use It For Your Snoring Partner
Snoring is a severe problem for many couples. Usually one of the two couple members tend to have problems with snoring, and the other one has to suffer. Thankfully, there are ways to get past that, you just need to rely on technology. Getting a white noise machine for snoring makes a lot of sense since white noise can help block these unwanted snoring sounds.
Does it really work?
What we need to keep in mind is the fact that the regular snoring noise is around 40 dB. The sound machine for snoring can generate sounds up to 90 dB, so that can easily mask the noise. You will end up sleeping better since the snoring is masked naturally and with great success. After all, sleeping is very important if you want to regain energy and feel better. Most of the time snoring is caused by stress, lack of energy, the fact that a person is overweight or it can also be due to narrow pathways. There are so many different aspects that it can be difficult to identify why exactly you are dealing with that issue.
How does the white noise machine for snoring work?
What we need to understand is that the human ear is able to access a variety of sound wavelengths. What that means here is that you can hear more than just regular noises created by people or random items. White noise combines a variety of noises in order to mask powerful noises. However, white noise will help relax you and you will feel a lot better.

What Does This Boil Down To
You want high-rated earplugs available as your first line of defense, i.e., with a rating of 30 to 33. They have to be large enough to properly seal your ear canal and comfortable enough to sleep through the night. Different people have different-sized ear canals. I would guess that mine are medium-large.
To block out louder snoring, expect to combine ear plugs with white noise .

How To Block Out Snoring Noise
In my previous post, I explored how day-time noise impairs our cognitive performance and what we can do about it. But there is another big elephant in the room our night-time sleep. Sleep or the lack of it has a big impact on our ability to perform at our best, both physically and mentally.
Less or disrupted slow-wave sleep, for example, entails poor memory and poor wound healing.
Among the worst offenders interrupting our night-time sleep is the all too familiar sound of SNORING. Snoring can be loud very loud indeed. A loud snorer can reach more than 90 decibels of peak sound pressure level. That is about as loud as a lawn mower.
Intrigued by the capabilities of some of the newer devices to block out noise and sophisticated white noise apps, I decided to run an experiment to answer this question: What is the best way to block out snoring noise?
How To Stop Snoring
Sleeping in the same room as someone who snores can be incredibly frustratingand can result in a serious lack of sleep. And one of the best solutions is to reduce or stop the snoring.
While this isnt an easy task, TFG readers had a few suggestions for how you can reduce or stop your traveling companion from snoring.

- 15-30 events per hour moderate sleep apnea
- 30+ events per hour severe sleep apnea
How Can White Noise Help With Sleep
Because its impossible to pick out one particular tone when listening to white noise, the noise tends to mask intermittent, inconsistent sounds. For some people, white noise acts as a screen that helps block out sounds that can make it difficult to fall asleep and maintain a deep, restful sleep. Studies on patients in critical care units found that using white noise devices helped mask the background noises in the hospital, letting patients sleep sounder with fewer interruptions.
During sleep, your hearing still works. Light sleepers often complain that they have trouble ignoring sleep-robbing noises such as barking dogs, car alarms, horns and trains. Sounds generated within their own home, including a snoring bed partner, can also make it tough for some folks to get a good nights rest.
White noise creates a;consistent background sound that some people find to be soothing because it effectively overrides disruptive intermittent noises. While;listening to white noise during sleep doesnt totally block out unwanted sounds, it can give the brain a constant sound;to focus on, and that can reduce unwelcome awakenings triggered by inconsistent, jarring noises.

How Do White Noise Machines Work
A white noise machine, sometimes also called a sound machine or sound conditioner, is a device that produces a stream of background noise – typically the type of sound that mathematically qualifies as “white noise”, though sometimes these machines actually produce pink noise or brown noise instead. They’re designed to help people sleep better and focus by drowning out distracting sounds. They can be especially helpful for people with tinnitus, since they drown out the distracting buzzing or ringing sound the disease causes.
