I Was Prescribed 25mg Of Zoloft For Insomnia Does This Medication Work For Insomnia

The Best Antidepressant For Sleep (Insomnia) & Depression/Anxiety
7 May 2017 by Anonymous

Nicole1375 Yes Zoloft is used for many different things from anxiety, panic attacks, and things that go with them and also used for sleep. The problem is that it does not always work right away you have to be patient Keep taking it every night is very important and as your body adjust to it You should start to notice a calming effect that we’ll help you start and get some sleep on a regular basis. Most people say the sleep part could start working any time after the first few weeks, and others it can take as much as 4 to 8 weeks to reach the full benefit. But well worth the wait and in that time you should be able to have several nights where it works for you just keep taking about the same time each night or however the doctor told you to. But they should have told you more of how it works. So you don’t have what is happening to you now taking it every night and not having any luck but it really should work Hope this helps you some.

Sorry Chuck1957. I meant to write zoloft and not Zomig. I used to take Zomig for my migraine headaches. Sorry for the confusion. You seem to be well versed in medications. I will contact my internist before stopping the ZOLOFT on my own. Thank you for noticing my wishy washy response.

RE: ZOLOFT for Insomnia

Antidepressants And Vivid Dreams

Another class of antidepressants, SNRIs , are known to cause sleep problems similar to those in SSRIs, as well as vivid dreams. Common SNRIs include Effexor , Pristiq and Cymbalta .

Antipsychotics are usually prescribed for schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, though they are also prescribed for mood disorders such as bipolar disorder and to supplement antidepressants in the treatment of depression. One of the most popular antipsychotics, Seroquel , has been associated with faster sleep onset and longer overall sleep time. An atypical antipsychotic, Clozaril has also been associated with improving sleep onset and sleep time

RLS can ruin a good nights sleep and antipsychotics and some antidepressants have been shown to cause it. The strong urge that RLS causes to uncontrollably move ones legs can make it hard to sleep, lead to sleeplessness, irritability and depressed mood. Remeron , an older, atypical antidepressant, is most likely to cause RLS. A case study found that RLS appeared to be provoked in patients on a low-dose of Seroquel. Interestingly, some evidence has shown that Wellbutrin may actually help to alleviate RLS.

Dealing With Insomnia Caused By Zoloft

Depression and anxiety are the two most common mental health disorders plaguing adults. These conditions are marked by feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest in people and activities that once made you happy. Other symptoms include a change in appetite, low self-esteem, and insomnia.

Many people turn to medication in an effort to ease these symptoms and live a productive, meaningful life. Zoloft is one such medication. While this antidepressant may be effective at reducing depression symptoms, it can also have unpleasant side effects, including insomnia.

Here well take a closer look at Zoloft, including how it works to treat depression, why it may cause insomnia in some users, and ways to combat these effects.

Establish A Sleep Schedule

Does Zoloft Cause Insomnia? Sleepyhood

One reason Zoloft may cause insomnia is that it alters your brain and body chemistry, which may also interfere with your sleep/wake cycle. The best way to support a healthy circadian rhythm is to set a consistent sleep schedule and stick to it.

Start by going to bed around the same time each night and waking at the same every morning. This includes weekends, holidays, and when youre on vacation. Of course, this wont always be possible but try sticking to it as closely as you can. Over time, your body will start to get tired around the same time every night. You may also find yourself waking up in the morning without an alarm.

These are all signals that your sleep schedule is working and your circadian rhythm is properly balanced.

Antidepressants As Sleep Aids

Depression is a common occurrence in a chronic pain condition, and insomnia is quite common in depression. If the individual with chronic pain is also experiencing clinical depression, treating the depression with psychological treatment and an appropriate antidepressants , if indicated, may also help with the sleep disruption as well as other symptoms of depression.

Even in chronic back pain patients who are not experiencing significant or clinical depression, sedating antidepressants are often used in low doses to help with insomnia as well as providing some analgesic benefit.

The sedating antidepressants most commonly used to help with sleep include Trazodone , Amitriptyline , and Doxepin .

It should be noted that when these medications are used for sleeping and pain relieving properties, it is in much lower doses than when used in the treatment of depression. Benefits of these antidepressants include:

  • They are non-addictive
  • Added benefit of providing some analgesic benefit as compared to the hypnotic class of medications discussed previously
  • Do not produce physical dependence or tolerance
  • Generally have a low incidence of side effects, especially when used in low doses.

Oh Turns Out I Was Crazy: How Zoloft Changed My Life And Helped Me Grow Up

Just a goat, who fancies herself an alien, coming to terms with the world.

I like to divide my time here on planet Earth into two distinct time periods: pre and post-Zoloft. I would abbreviate the two, but theyre both P.Z. To be fair, any humans life is undoubtedly more nuanced than two large blocks of time, but for the purposes of this article, stay with me.

Pre-Zage 13 up until about a year agowas a time of rushed meetings, angry car rides, delusions of grandeur, fears of being trapped in small spaces, panic attacks in grocery stores, fears of having panic attacks in grocery stores, and so on and so forth. Pretty dark, eh? Dont get me wrong, there were some good times in there , but overall, it was a constant struggle to battle the noise inside my brain. While my childhood was generally carefree, spent imitating all of the ethnic Disney princesses and running around like the little tomboy I was and still am, things shifted when I hit age 13.

Combine this with a constant sense of awe at Planet EarthIm a natural born stoner without the weedand an incessant hunger to understand the why of existence, and youve got a recipe for neuroticism, or pure genius, you make the call ) It didnt take long for my thoughts to desensitize me from reality and lead to a spiral of other thoughts that would, as my therapist warned, take me out of my body and up, up, and away if I wasnt careful..”

A Better Solution To Fix Your Sleep

The major drawback of taking mirtazapine for a sleep problem is that itâs not a long-term solution. Firstly, the sedative effects of low dose mirtazapine tend to wear off after a few weeks, as the body becomes used to it.

This may lead people to think that they can increase the dose to get the same effect but, as we mentioned earlier, the sedative effects of mirtazapine are lost as the dose increases. So taking a higher dose may actually make you more alert.

Secondly, taking a sleep aid such as mirtazapine doesnât address the actual reason behind why youâre sleeping badly in the first place. It just covers up the problem and itâs well known that after stopping taking mirtazapine, insomnia usually returns.

The most comprehensive way to resolve a sleep problem is to identify the root causes. Ask yourself these questions:

  • Is there anything that could be affecting your sleep?
  • What are your daytime and bedtime routines like?
  • What do you know about attaining healthy sleep?

Thinking about your sleep, addressing problems with your sleep hygiene and expanding your knowledge about sleep are all key components of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for insomnia .

This is the gold-standard treatment for insomnia and at Sleepstation we use a modified version of CBTi, known as digital CBTi , to help people get back to sleeping well. We provide a scientifically proven solution to insomnia with results that are sustainable and which involves no use of medication.

This syndrome consists of various unpleasant symptoms, such as blurred thinking, foul mood, flu-like problems and yes: more sleep disturbance.

These symptoms should subside naturally after a few days, but in some rare cases, they can be so violent that a re-introduction of the treatment is required, followed by a gradual tapering-off.

How Can You Save Yourself From This Insomnolence Nightmare

I think the first strategy that you can employ is to stay as far away from Zoloft as possible.

And that is not just for Zoloft, but for every type of antidepressant.

When your doctor suggests that you take Zoloft, to take the edge off, or to reduce your depression.

Tell your doctor that you want to first try diet and exercise for depression.

Try out a month of walking, weight lifting, and eating real food daily.

Do everything that you can to avoid Zoloft and insomnia because you do not:

  • want to experience that zombie feeling of being spaced out
  • need to walk into your office and not know what is going on
  • want to become useless because of insomnia from anti-depressants
  • It is in your best interest, to try and manage your depression in other ways.

Zoloft Reviews: How Does It Compare To Other Medications

One of the most common questions that Zoloft users and potential users have is how Zoloft compares to other SSRIs and other psychiatric medications. Lets take a look at some user reviews from patients who have taken both Zoloft and other antidepressants to see how it stacks up.

Many Zoloft reviews describe Zoloft as the first antidepressant that worked.

WebMD reviewer MKRPK says, Zoloft makes me cheerful, relaxed, undepressed, not anxious. I have switched between it and other antidepressants many times over many years, trying to find the best combo of benefits and least side effects. I keep going back to it.

Drugs.com Zoloft reviewer Kitten.77 agrees: I have tried several antidepressants, but nothing seemed to work. However, I started Zoloft about a week ago, and I am officially sold on it. It makes me feel more optimistic about life.

Take note that if you are switching from one antidepressant to another, you should let your doctor know ahead of time, and do so carefully.

Sc00bs, a Zoloft reviewer on Drugs.com, warns readers, Was switching from 40mg of Celexa to 100mg of Zoloft. Felt great first two weeks. Then it was pure hell after that. I ended up with Serotonin syndrome during the switch.

Several other Zoloft reviewers have reported similar experiences when attempting to find the right medication to treat their depression.
