How To Tell If Your Watch Needs A Charge Or A New Battery

How to track your sleep with your Apple Watch Apple Support

There are a few ways to tell if your Apple Watch needs a charge or a new battery.

One way is to check the battery level in the iPhone Watch app.

If it says Low, then it needs a charge.

Another way to tell is if the watchs screen is blank or if its dimmer than usual.

If either of those things is happening, then its likely that the battery needs to be replaced.

Finally, you can also try holding down the side button to see if the watch turns on.

If it does, then the battery is likely just low and can be recharged.

If it doesnt turn on, then the battery might need to be replaced.

Does The Apple Watch Track Sleep

With the Sleep app on the Apple Watch, you can create schedules that help track your sleep so you can get the necessary rest your body desperately needs. Apple Watch Sleep Tracking works when users wear the watch to when they go to sleep. The app provides sleep data after a user wakes up and tracks sleep quality over 14 days. One key component to efficiently using the sleep tracking features is to ensure the phone is charged at least 30%.

Conveniently, the phone provides charging reminders to help you ensure the phone does not lose power in the middle of your sleep. The reminders will also notify you when your Apple Watch is fully charged. This feature helps maintain the long-term health of your battery. Overcharging can damage the battery and cause the Apple Watch to last fewer hours on a fully charged battery. Eventually, this may lead to expensive repairs or a complete Apple Watch replacement.

One way to help you maintain the necessary power levels to track your sleep effectively is keeping an extra Apple Watch charger on you during the day to charge your watch when you are not using it. You can also use an old Apple Watch, if you happen to have one, as your exclusive sleep tracking device.

That way, you can charge it during the day and wear it while you sleep during the night. This makes sleep tracking easier, as power management will no longer be a problem. You can charge your other Apple Watch, which you use for daily wear, at your convenience.

How Does Apple Watch Sleep Tracking Work

The Apple Watch Sleep app integrates with the Sleep feature in the Health App and the Apple Watch app for iPhone.

If you wear your Apple Watch to bed and turn on sleep mode, the Sleep app will track your sleep duration, which includes the average time you spend in bed and the average time you spend asleep.

Quick tip: With the watchOS 8 update, your Apple Watch also tracks your breathing rate while you sleep.

One of the main features of the Sleep app is bedtime schedules, which can help you achieve your sleep goals during the week and even on weekends.

Once you set a schedule, your Apple Watch will gather data during these time frames. You can set multiple sleep schedules, which is helpful if your sleep habits differ throughout the week.

Other Minor Issues With The Up App

Besides automatic sleep detection and the initial pairing issue, I have found a couple of minor issues that Jawbone hopefully corrects soon, including:

  • Switching between normal and sleep mode should not need five clicks in the app. Tapping the band is much faster and more convenient. So please restore the old behavior or at least make it an option.
  • Making changes that need to be synced to the band, like smart alarm time, sleep mode, etc. is slow because the settings in the app only update after they have synchronized to the band. So Switching to sleep mode takes several seconds before the icon in the app shows the moon, indicating sleep mode is on. As a result, the app appears unresponsive, and you never know if your click/tap was registered until a few seconds later. Instead, Jawbone should change the indicator icons first while syncing in the background.

    Native Apple Watch Sleep Tracking

With the release of watchOS 7 last year, Apple Watch now officially supports sleep tracking without needing a third-party application.

We went hands-on with the experience when it was released, explaining that Apple is tying Apple Watch sleep-tracking capabilities in with new iPhone features such as Wind Down and Wake Up for a seamless cross-device experience.

Theres a new Sleep app on the Apple Watch, as well as a Sleep Mode that hides your usual watch face and instead shows the current time, as well as what time your alarm is set for. It also disables features like raise-to-wake, so your watch face isnt lighting up in the middle of the night.

To view the sleep data tracked by your Apple Watch, you can go to the Sleep app on Apple Watch or the Health app on iPhone. The actual data here is limited. Apple simply shows you your time asleep, as well as a range for your heart rate. Thats where third-party applications still prove useful. They can offer much more data than Apples native implementation, and you dont have to wait until the fall to get started.
