Head to the Fitbit app’s dashboard on your mobile device or computer. Tap on the plus symbol and select ‘Set Alarm’ then ‘Set a new alarm.’ Pick an alarm time and frequency, then save. The app should sync with your tracker immediately.

Your Flex 2 will vibrate and light up when your silent alarm goes off and will repeat several times or until it’s dismissed with a double-tap. You can also walk around 50 steps to turn it off. If you don’t dismiss an alarm, it goes off again in nine minutes.

Rest Assured The Versa 2 Is A Great Sleep Tracker

Fitbit wearables have long been capable of analyzing sleep metrics and turning that data into useful and actionable insights. Like other Fitbit trackers, the Versa 2 uses a combination of motion data and heart rate data to show you time spent in various sleep stages . In addition to its sensors, another reason that the Versa 2 makes such a good sleep tracker is its huge battery. On a single charge, the device will last at least five days, allowing you to wear the watch at night for almost a week without taking it off to recharge.

Within Fitbit’s app, you can view your sleep data in charts that show your sleep stages, the time you went to sleep, and the time you woke up, It’s viewable over a day, 30-day average, and benchmark. In addition to this quantitative data, Fitbit has recently revamped the way it presents qualitative sleep tracking data in the app, creating what it is calling a Sleep Score.

Based on your heart rate, time asleep, restlessness and breathing, this personalized score helps you better understand your sleep quality each night.

Set A Budget And Make A Shopping List

You likely already plan for big expenses, such as vacations, weddings or college tuition. Planning out everyday purchases is just as important. Making a budget that accounts for clothing, gifts, groceries and other expenses will help you figure out how much you can afford to spend and avoid debt. The 50/30/20 budget is one template you can use to split your monthly income between the things you need and nonessentials.

Track Swimming With Flex 2

Four swim strokes can be tracked with the Flex 2: freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. You then get an overview of calories burned in a chart, the amount of time you’ve swam, distance, pace and impact on your day.

You’ll also have to turn on the swim track feature before you hop in the pool. Fitbit says this is turned off by default to conserve battery life “for those who do not regularly swim.”

After doing this, make sure you head to the advanced swim settings found in the account page of the app. There’s not a great deal of customisation going on here, but you can change the pool length and unit measurement. It helps the Flex 2 algorithms calculate your swim metrics more accurately.

New or less seasoned swimmers will have a slightly harder time tracking swims if there’s a lot of pausing during laps. Getting in and out of the pool will also affect the tracking. It’s good to do at least 10 minutes or more of continuous laps to get the best results.

Manually Adjusting The Fitbits Sleep Log

Alternatively, you can use the Fitbit app to start and stop sleep tracking if your Fitbit isnt automatically logging your sleep.

You can also make changes to your sleep log at any time if it is inaccurate. Here are the directions:

  • In the Fitbit app, select the Sleep tile.
  • Choose the night you want to edit.
  • Tap on the three dots.
  • Select the option to edit.
  • Adjust the times you went to sleep and/or woke up.
  • Press Save.
  • If you prefer not to worry about your Fitbit automatically tracking your sleep, you can manually log your sleep in the Fitbit app or your Fitbit account. However, this is not a preferred option because you dont get any information about your sleep patterns or sleep stages when logging your sleep manually.

    The Fitbit app is one of our favourites in the activity-tracking field thanks to its simple interface and easy-to-navigate platform.

    No matter what Fitbit tracker you have, the app layout is the same but features will vary, depending on what your device is capable of tracking. For all devices, there are four tabs at the bottom of the app: Dashboard, Challenges, Friends and Account .

    The Dashboard tab presents a summary of your day, with everything from steps taken and calories burned to sleep duration and active minutes. There are tiles for data such as water intake, food intake and weekly exercise, each of which can be edited into a display order that suits you by tapping “Edit” at the bottom of the tiles.

    As is the case with the Charge 2, some features could be easier to find, such as activities recognised by SmartTrack but the majority of settings and features are visible upon first glance.

    A small image of the Flex 2 is present in the top left-hand corner of the app, along with a battery indicator. Tapping on this will launch settings – including the hand you are wearing the tracker on, main goal preferences and smartphone notification options. You can also tailor reminders to move here.

    Last but not least is the Account tab. Here you can edit your profile, change your goals, link third-party apps such as MyFitnessPal, and alter things such as stride length for better accuracy.

    Using its MEMS 3-axis accelerometer the Fitbit Flex 2 tracks Steps, Distance, Calories Burned, Active Minutes and Hourly Activity, Swimming, plus Sleep Duration and Quality. It lacks the altimeter present in the Fitbit Charge 2, Blaze and Surge, and so doesn’t measure Floors Climbed.

    Fitbit Flex 2 Review: Design

    The Fitbit Flex 2 is a small, slim and subtle-looking activity tracker, making it a great choice for those who want to track activity with an unobtrusive device. It’s considerably slimmer than the Alta, Charge 2 and the original Flex, sitting comfortably and discreetly on the wrist.

    Like its predecessor, the Flex 2 is made up of a small removable tracker housed within an elastomer band as standard. It is removed by simply slipping it out from the underside of the band and it can even be placed into specially-designed accessories for a smarter look.

    The standard elastomer band is textured rather than smooth. It features a chamfered edge, tying it in with Fitbit’s aforementioned devices. There are four colours available – black, lavender, magenta, navy – all of which use a form of two-pin fastening rather than a buckle like the Charge 2.

    The fastening mechanism of the Flex 2 is significantly more secure than the original device and other two-pin devices we have tried. Once on, it’s difficult to get the Flex 2 off without really tugging. It’s not going to go flying off anywhere.

    It is, however, only one of two Fitbit trackers that are fully waterproof and boast the ability to track swimming as an exercise.You have to enter the length of your pool in order to accurately count laps, and this is done via the Fitbit app. We’re told that it works with front crawl , backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. The other waterproof Fitbit is the high-end smartwatch read our Fitbit Ionic review.

    You can wear it in the shower or bath, unlike the other only water-resistant trackers from Fitbit. Also, see our round-up of the best waterproof swim trackers. We think that the Flex 2 might even be used by some Fitbit enthusiasts as a second tracker specifically for the pool.

    The Flex 2 is Fitbit’s first properly waterproof fitness tracker, and can track your swimming as an exercise activity. We haven’t fully tested the Flex 2 on a rigorous swim, but will update this review when we have. The Flex 2 measures your Swim Duration, and calculates calorie burn during your time in the pool.

    Fitbit doesn’t recommend extended exposure to water, so don’t leave it in a bucket of water overnight. Like you would!

    Yahoo tech columnist David Pogue spoke to a Fitbit product manager who admitted that even the Fitbit Charge 2 could be worn in the shower without damage, as long as the shower isn’t super-powered. Pogue tried this out and had no problems with his Charge 2. But only the Flex 2 is guaranteed waterproof by Fitbit, and is the only Fitbit to actively track swimming.

    Fitbit Flex 2 Activity Tracking And App

    Once you have the Flex 2 wrapped around your wrist, its strength lies in the fact that you can largely forget about it. All of your steps are automatically counted and your forty winks all add up when you sleep.

    The previously mentioned SmartTrack will kick in during certain exercises such as longer-duration walks, running, cycling and now, swimming. You can configure when SmartTrack starts through the app, but the settings are a little tucked away for my liking.

    Youll also need to turn on the swim tracking this is disabled out of the box. Fitbit says this is to conserve battery life for non-swimmers, which is fair enough. Once you turn it on, youll need to also set the pool length if you want the lap counting to be accurate.

    Even then, when I went for a test swim its lap counting was considerably off the pace, especially compared to the excellent and, admittedly, far more expensive Apple Watch Series 2.

    In fairness, this can be attributed to my rather haphazard, stop-start style of swimming, which throws off the tracking. If youre a stronger swimmer, less prone to stopping or flailing, youll likely find the lap counting much better as was the case when I gave the Flex 2 to my other half.     Why Is My Fitbit Not Tracking Sleep

    To properly troubleshoot your Fitbit when it isnt tracking or recording your sleep, it helps to understand how Fitbits track sleep in the first place. Fitbit registers that you are sleeping after an hour of no motion. Therefore, if you take a nap for less than an hour, your Fitbit will not recognize it as sleep.

    First, make sure your Fitbit is snug on your wrist before going to sleep to ensure the most accurate sleep tracking. However, if your Fitbit still doesnt track your sleep, try the following troubleshooting tips:

    What Is The Fitbit Flex 2

    The original Fitbit Flex sat at the entry-level end of Fitbits product range. It was a relatively discreet tracker that did the basics of activity and sleep tracking, but offered little beyond that.

    For its update, which was released alongside the new Charge 2, Fitbit has brought the Flex more up-to-date, adding waterproofing and some rudimentary smartphone notifications. Youre also able to dress the Flex 2 up and down with customisable accessories. However, even with these upgrades, there are still better-value fitness trackers out there.

    Fitbit Not Tracking Sleep Or Is Not Accurate Lets Fix It

    Fitbits are a great option if you want an insight into your sleep habits.

    All Fitbit trackers except the Fitbit Zip monitor your sleep patterns, detecting how much time you spend awake, restless, and asleep.

    If you own a newer version of Fitbit with a heart rate sensor, you get an even more detailed sleep report, showing light, deep, and REM sleep time.

    These Fitbits use your movement and heart rate information to estimate how long you spend in light, deep, and Rapid Eye Movement sleep each night.

    But what if the device on your wrist is not tracking sleep properly? Or its inconsistent or even inaccurate?

    How Does Your Fitness Tracker Know When You’re Asleep

    Sleep tracking is a big part of what we do at Exist. We currently sync sleep data from Fitbit, Jawbone UP, Misfit, Nokia Health, Apple Health, and Google Fit.

    We use that sleep data to look for trends and insights in your behaviour, by adding to it data from your Twitter, Facebook, Swarm, and Instagram accounts, productivity data from RescueTime, GitHub, Gmail, your calender, and Todoist, the music you listen to from, plus your weight, weather, exercise, nutrition, and location data.

    I dived into some research to work out what’s going on when you set your Jawbone UP or Fitbit to sleep mode. Both devices use accelerometers to track your movements, including the speed and direction of your motion. This is how they track your activity during the day, and how they tell when you’re asleep.

    When you set your Fitbit or Jawbone UP device to “sleep mode,” it monitors your movements. When you sync your device the next morning, the software translates those movements into sleep data. If you’ve ever edited your sleep times the next morning, you’ll have seen a glimpse into how this worksdata about your movement during “awake” time gets re-analysed when you tell the software you were actually asleep then, and you then see it charted as sleep data.

    This method of using a device to track movements in order to measure sleep is called actigraphy.

    To Change Your Fitbit Inspire To The On

  • On the Fitbit Inspire Series, press and hold the button for about 2 seconds to open your Fitbits Quick Settings.
  • Scroll down past the settings for battery level, screen wake, notifications, and tap on-clip to change it to on-wrist.
  • Press the button again to return to the clock face.

    Fitbit Flex 2 Review: Goals And Badges

    You set goals for each of the measurements, and can earn badges for goals achieved. The Flex 2 also gives you a gentle vibrating buzz on the wrist when you hit your Step goals.

    The calculation of steps taken is never going to be 100 percent accurate but the distance isnt way off in our tests. The thing to remember is that the measurements are relative. Youll soon get an idea what you get up to in an average day, and you set out to beat that average and walk or run more, climb stairs rather than take the lift, leave the car in the driveway or walk past that bus stop.

    You can input your weight every day but this isnt compulsory so dont let that put you off.
