Nausea and vomiting is experienced by a lot of women at some point during labor.

Sometimes, nausea can happen before labor but generally it happens during the active first stage of labor. I have definitely felt nauseous due to the pain from contractions.

If you do end up vomiting, keep drinking fluids to stay hydrated.

Best Sleeping Positions For Pregnancy

Sleeping on the left side with the legs slightly curled is considered the best sleeping position in pregnancy. This position facilitates blood flow to the heart, kidneys, and uterus, and improves the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the fetus. Although not as optimal as the left side, sleeping on the right side during pregnancy is also acceptable.

It may be helpful to use a few extra pillows to get comfortable sleeping on your side, especially if youre not accustomed to this sleeping position. Try tucking in a wedge pillow to support your belly, or adding a thin pillow between the knees to help relieve pressure on the lower back. Some women find it useful to hug a body pillow or place a pillow under the lower back.

As the uterus grows larger, sleeping on the back during pregnancy can cause backache and put pressure on the vena cava. The vena cava is one of the bodys principal veins, so this can interfere with blood flow and cause dizziness. While back sleeping is all right for brief stints, its best to avoid it if possible. Most pregnant women find that sleeping on the stomach is impractical once the baby bump reaches a certain size.

Losing Your Mucus Plug

The mucus plug is a thick collection of mucus that seals the opening of the cervix. This stops bacteria from entering your uterus, but once labor nears, this plug loosens and drops out.

Some women drop a glob of mucus in the toilet after using the restroom, whereas others notice mucus on their underwear or while wiping after urinating.

The color of the mucus varies from clear to pink, and it can also contain traces of blood but dont be alarmed. This is completely normal and known as the bloody show.

Losing the mucus plug is your bodys way of getting ready to deliver. Its possible to lose the mucus plug weeks before going into labor, but it often happens days or hours before labor.

The Body Starts Swelling

Weeks before labor starts, the body knows that the mother will have a lot of blood loss while delivering the baby. So what it does is it starts storing the blood in tissue, which increases the blood volume in the body. That is the reason the body swells up a few weeks before labor. Swelling could be mild or moderate.

Blood pressure naturally goes up a bit. Swelling on the feet is common in all women in the third trimester, but swelling specifically in the hands and face happens during the last few days near the due date is a sign of pre-labor. Even though the body is preparing for labor this does not mean active labor is going to start soon. It could be days or weeks.

What Time Of Day Does Labor Usually Start

Ever wondered if theres been a study on when labor usually starts? Well, lucky for you-

there has!

This study was published in 2018 and some interesting answers but you might not like them.

If you go into spontaneous labor and have then continue on to have a spontaneous birth , you are most likely to give birth between midnight and 6am and probably on a weekday, not a weekend.

If you have an induced labor, the birth is more likely to occur around midnight from Tuesday to Saturday.

If you have insomnia, no matter the reason, you should seek help to sleep better. For temporary relief, you can use over-the-counter or prescription sleep medications.

However, you should not use these for longer than a few weeks. Also, if you think you may be pregnant, you should avoid them altogether.

Instead, take a home pregnancy test or see your healthcare provider to be sure. Then seek out alternate options for persistent sleep difficulties.

As your body grows, sleep becomes a little harder to come by, especially in the third trimester. Its difficult to get comfortable. Its harder to move around and shift positions in bed.
