Insomnia Cookies Celebrates Opening 150th Store In South Philadelphia

A mainstay of the collegiate world, Insomnia Cookies is a chain of United States bakeries that specializes in delivering warm cookies until 3 am. The chain is the brainchild of a Seth Berkowitz, who was a University of Pennsylvania student at the time, who began baking and delivering cookies to students on campus late at night, leading to the creation of a successful array of bakeries with over 100 locations. Most Insomnia Cookies are located near university campuses where students up late can satisfy their nighttime sugar cravings.

Now Insomnia Cookies has unveiled its first kosher certified restaurant. As revealed, the Upper West Side location of the bakery, conveniently located next to Sabas Pizza, is now under the supervision of National Kosher, and Rabbi Aaron Mehlman.

How and when did this happen? In 2014, Insomnia Cookies tweeted that it was considering the move.

Our cookies are not kosher, but its under consideration for our UWS store. Sorry :/ Insomnia Cookies

The saga continued when on April 9, 2018 the keepers of the Insomnia Cookies social media accounts took to a different platform to reveal the climax to this tale of Jewish cookie fantasies.

Tiki Tacos N Burgers N Wings

Iowa City native Brandon Ryan opened the restaurant in April, located at 119 E. Washington St. in downtown Iowa City.

I wanted to open my own place that had all my favorite foods under one roof, Ryan said And then create a fun, laid-back, island casual environment where everybody’s welcome and it’s just no stress.

The restaurant offers a variety of eats, including vegan options and specials like Taco Thursdays. Ryan said that since UI students left in May, the restaurant has tweaked its menu and has kept moving forward.

Part of the new menu, he said, includes a mac and cheese bar. The restaurant will also be adding new wing sauces, according to Ryan, who added that everything is made in house from scratch.

Tiki Tacos opens at 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon on Sunday.

Insomnia Cookies Opens Hidden Cookielab In South Philadelphia

Insomnia Cookies has officially opened the doors to its East Passyunk storefront in South Philadelphia. But there’s more to the store than what you see at first.

Hidden behind a bookshelf is the company’s first-ever CookieLab!

“Insomnia Cookies, a rapidly expanding late-night bakery concept known for revolutionizing the cookie game for over 15 years, is celebrating its 192nd location and new playground for cookievation in the heart of Philadelphia across the street from iconic eateries Pat’s and Geno’s,” the company said in a press release.

Visitors to the CookieLab will be able to “experience where the cookie magic happens.” In addition, the company says visitors can “push the limits of cookie combinations with customizable cookies, cookie-cakes, Cookie’wiches , cookie-inspired milkshakes and more.”

Insomnia Cookies calls the CookieLab its new speakeasy – or sweeteasy.

“Where mad scientist meets Willy Wonka, this one-of-a-kind CookieLab, aptly hidden behind a bookshelf in the new storefront, gives flavor-makers an inside look at multiple cookie creations, access to a craft milkshake bar, indoor seating and a pick-up window,” the company said.

Depending on the order, Insomnia Cookies says visitors’ creations may take up to 15 minutes to be prepared and baked.

Seth Berkowitz, founder and CEO of Insomnia Cookies, held an outdoor ribbon cutting on Friday.

So how does one get into the CookieLab?

And the CookieLab is first come, first serve.

How Much Does Delivery Of Insomnia Cookies Cost

The overall cost of the service will depend on what you order. The high percentage of orders coming through on a regular basis is less than $10. There are some menu items that are higher and a rare few combinations that can exceed $20.

Larger boxes, like the traditional 24 count box, will reach over $30 after taxes.

On top of the cost of the cookies, cakes or brownies, you will be required to pay the sales tax as well. Unless you live in an area that doesnt have a sales tax, of course. All others will be required to cover the local or state sales tax amount, which has a current nationwide average of about 8.5 percent.

There is also a delivery fee of $1.99 added to each order, and a tip is automatically calculated in the total for you. While some dislike the automatic tip, there isnt much of an option otherwise, except to drive down and pick up the cookies yourself.

The tip amount will vary based on the total cost and could be another factor in choosing a third party delivery service, like GrubHub, instead of the store delivery.

The downtown Iowa City location will be the late-night bakery chains third location in Iowa. The other two are in Ames and Cedar Falls. Its no coincidence that all three of Iowas locations are near college towns.

Insomnia Cookies was founded in 2003 by Seth Berkowitz, who was then a college student at the University of Pennsylvania.

Berkowitz loved cookies but didnt want to leave his dorm room at night to go get them. So, Berkowitz and his friends baked large batches of cookies and delivered them around campus. Three years later, in 2006, Insomnia Cookies opened its first brick-and-mortar store in Syracuse, New York. And the rest is history.

The company is hiring bakers, drivers and shift leads for the Iowa City location. More information and applications can be found online.

The former Parlor on Main hair salon at 422 E. Main Ave. in downtown Bowling Green is being renovated and is expected to open next month as an Insomnia Cookies business.

Downtown Bowling Green is about to get a little sweeter.

Already home to Mary Janes Chocolates on East Main Avenue, Little Fox Bakery on Park Row and the Baked cookie shop on College Street, the downtown area will soon get another sweets-selling business.

Insomnia Cookies, a Philadelphia-based company specializing in late-night sales and delivery of cookies, is moving into the former Parlor on Main hair salon building at 422 E. Main Ave. and has plans to open in November.

It will be the fifth Kentucky location for Insomnia Cookies, which has two stores in Louisville and one each in Lexington and Richmond.

The companys chief marketing officer, Tom Carusona, said Bowling Green is a good fit for the cookie retailer that was launched in 2003 when company founder Seth Berkowitz started baking and delivering cookies from his dorm room at the University of Pennsylvania.

Insomnia Cookies expanded rapidly after that founding and was acquired in 2018 by Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, with financing help from JAB Holding Co.

So much of our brand has been built on delivering cookies to college students, Carusona said. We wanted to be near the Western Kentucky University campus.

Its also important for us to go to towns with vibrant downtowns. We believe Bowling Green has that.

        Insomnia Cookies Is The Best

I order no less than 1 x month but sometimes up to 4 times! Cookies ALWAYS come warm literally as if they were just pulled from the oven. And they are truly delicious. They taste high quality not cheap and stale but homemade and theyre not tiny either! The ice cream is always great as well! Tastes like a good quality not junk commercial stuff bought in bulk. Even if it is theyre stocking the right stuff! Prices are insane for what you get AND how late you can order! My ONLY wish is they would fill the small cups for the cookie-which completely bc often its full and the other half the time it isnt. And that they would offer the same ice creams and cookies ALL the time. With the exception of the holiday themed which I understand. But the flavors of ice cream should always be available in my opinion. Nevertheless I always order anyway! Also, love you get points every order. Ive had 2-3 orders free minus delivery & tip from my points. They have great daily offers and I always take advantage! If you want something sweet at night order insomnia. It will never disappoint!
